Multiple Myeloma Specialists in Central New York

Multiple myeloma is a cancer that begins in plasma cells, a type of white blood cell found in bone marrow. When a plasma cell becomes abnormal, it can multiply uncontrollably, producing large numbers of cancerous cells called myeloma cells.

Over time, myeloma cells build up in the bone marrow and may damage bone tissue. When multiple areas of bone are affected, the condition is known as multiple myeloma. This disease can also affect organs such as the kidneys.

Myeloma cells produce abnormal antibodies, called M proteins, that collect in the blood, urine, and organs. High amounts of these proteins can indicate the presence of multiple myeloma or other plasma cell disorders.

If you or someone close to you has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, understanding the condition can help you feel more prepared for treatment and care decisions.

At Hematology-Oncology Associates of CNY (HOA), our multiple myeloma specialists are trained in both hematology and oncology and provide personalized care plans based on your diagnosis, disease stage, and overall health.
