Who is Part of Your Leukemia Care Team? 

After a leukemia diagnosis, you will have a dedicated team of specialists to support your care. A hematologist, who specializes in blood disorders including blood cancers like leukemia, will lead your care team. This hematologist-oncologist will spend time with you and your family to understand your specific situation and develop a personalized treatment plan.

At HOA, you may also meet with other members of the cancer care team throughout your treatment program, including:

Physician assistant and/or nurse practitioner
These professionals assist oncologists by meeting with patients, answering questions, and assessing a patient’s response to treatment.

Radiation oncologist
If radiation therapy is part of your treatment plan, this HOA physician will discuss the goals and details of the treatment with you.

Oncology-certified nurse
The infusion room at HOA is staffed by nurses specifically trained to administer cancer treatments.

Supportive care specialists
This team helps manage treatment side effects and provides emotional support throughout your treatment journey and beyond.

Patient financial counselor
This individual assists with payment planning, communicates with your insurance provider, and identifies potential financial assistance options.
