Who is Part of Your Skin Cancer Care Team?

Skin cancer is often identified during a routine skin exam by a dermatologist or primary care physician (PCP).  A dermatologist is often the doctor who removes the entire area or a portion of the area to have it tested for cancer cells. They are also likely to perform any additional surgery that may be necessary.

Most patients with melanoma or more advanced non-melanoma skin cancers will likely need to consult with an oncologist to determine the other recommended treatments that make it less likely for the cancer to recur or spread.

At HOA, your skin cancer care team may include several professionals, such as:

Medical oncologist
Oversees treatment planning and medical therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy.

Radiation oncologist
This physician discusses the goals and details of radiation therapy if it is part of the treatment plan.

Oncology-certified nurse
The infusion room at HOA is staffed with nurses specifically trained in administering cancer treatments.

Patient financial counselor
This individual assists with payment planning, communicates with your insurance provider, and identifies potential financial assistance options.

Supportive care specialists
This team helps manage treatment side effects and provides emotional support throughout your treatment journey and beyond.
