Nurse Practitioner-Radiation Oncology

Advanced Practice Nurse in Radiation Oncology. Responsibilities of the APN will focus on the treatment and care of oncology patients.
 
Responsibilities  • Primary responsibility is to provide follow-up care for radiation oncology patients. This includes evaluation of cancer status and assessment and management of acute and late side effects of cancer therapy. Additional responsibilities include assisting in coordination of care for patients under treatment and management of acute therapy side effects.  • Works collaboratively as a team member of the clinic to provide high quality and efficient service to patients. Participates in performance improvement activities.  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides recommendations.  • Demonstrates active participation and interaction with multidisciplinary oncology team activities such as teleconference calls, case conferences (Tumor Boards), team meetings. Prepares for, participates in, and attends required conferences, meetings, and committees as requested.  • Participates in clinical research relevant to radiation oncology patient population, specifically, works with the radiation oncology medical team and research associates to provide clinical care and follow-up assessments per the clinical research trials requirements.  • Develops policies and protocols with the physicians, nurses, therapists and physics staff for the delivery of oncology care.  • Serves and/or represents the facility on various VISN 12 or national groups.  • Assists with patient education materials and participates in developing patient teaching plans.  • Serves as a preceptor for graduate nursing students as appropriate.  • Participates in the educational and professional development of fellows, residents, Radiation/Oncology staff physicians, nurses, medical students and other health care providers.  Other duties as requested 
Requirements/Qualifications to include:  • Current RN license  • Graduate of Master’s degree NP program.  • National NP certification required-Acute Care  • NYS Prescriptive Authority  • Clinical expertise in Oncology preferred  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills  • Excellent organizational skills
