Who is Part of Your Colorectal Cancer Care Team?

After a diagnosis of colorectal cancer, you will have a team of specialists dedicated to your care.

A medical oncologist oversees your treatment, supported by other professionals who play essential roles in the treatment process. Members of your colorectal cancer care team may include:

Colorectal cancer surgeon
This may be the same person who performed your colonoscopy, or it could be someone who specializes in more complex colorectal surgeries depending on your needs.

Radiation oncologist
If radiation therapy is part of your treatment plan, this HOA physician will meet with you to discuss the treatment plan and goals.

Physician assistant and/or nurse practitioner
These team members support the oncologists by meeting with patients and serving as a liaison to answer questions and determine how well the patient is responding to treatment

Oncology-certified nurse
HOA's infusion room is staffed by nurses specifically trained in administering cancer treatments.

Oncology nurse navigator
A registered nurse who provides individualized assistance to patients, families and caregivers proactively facilitating communication between patients and caregivers to arrange timely medical care.

Social worker
To assist with mental and emotional needs, as well as identify helpful community resources for you.

To assist with payment planning, interacting with your insurance carrier, and identifying potential financial assistance.
