Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hospice & Palliative Care

When I was a kid, I had two uncles who were physicians.  I used to look through their books; medicine really piqued my interest, particularly since I seemed to have an aptitude for science and biology.

For a while, I thought about playing music professionally; in fact, I played the trombone for 20 years.  But, eventually I decided to pursue molecular biology because of my love of science.  I really wanted to travel, so I decided to go off on an adventure to Italy to attend medical school. So, I was educated with the added bonus of being fluent in Italian!

I really can’t imagine doing anything else.  I have an ability to point people in the right direction to get better and/or live their lives to the fullest. To be honest, cancer scares everybody, but I feel I can help ease people’s fears. Although we can’t know or do everything, HOA has some amazing treatment options.  The prognosis for most forms of cancer is so much more optimistic than it used to be.  HOA is very special, largely because of the staff here.  The support of the MAs, LPNs, RNs, and NPs, lab personnel and all the administrative people is truly amazing.  HOA has the best working environment I have ever seen.  We have a fantastic, forward-thinking management team that inspires everyone and keeps us all squarely focused on the patients.

And of course, the patients are also amazing. One of the things I have learned through my work here is that everyone is different, and you can’t expect two patients to react the same way.  The courage of some of my younger patients is inspiring.  It puts life in perspective, and reminds you to live life to the fullest each day.

For me, living life to the fullest means spending time with my family, traveling to places such as Alaska and Montana, and hunting and fishing throughout Upstate New York.
