It seems like I knew I was going to be a physician all my life. At five years old, my desire to become a physician was inspired by my uncle who was a surgeon. I have fond recollections of accompanying him to his office when I would marvel at how he helped people and touched their lives. As I grew older, my interest in medicine and desire to become a physician deepened. During my internship and residency, I worked with some incredibly intelligent and gifted Oncologists. As the years passed, I tried to emulate these doctor mentors and role models as I joined them in their quest to provide the best and state-of-the-art care for patients. The treatments for cancer and blood disorders are always advancing and the options for care continue to become more effective and varied.

In 1982, Dr. John Gullo and I partnered to form Hematology-Oncology Associates of Central New York. Shortly after, Drs. Jeffrey Kirshner and Anthony Scalzo joined our partnership. Our compatibility and commitment to cancer care and clinical research were the foundations of our success as partners. Our sincere desire was to create an environment that rendered the best in patient care with research available to our community. Our clinical research partnerships and alliances provide the opportunity for clinical cancer research to be conducted close to home. We are totally committed to excellence. We have always seen each person as an individual who deserves customized care. These founding beliefs have allowed us to expand to the practice we have today, providing opportunities for a group of outstanding physicians, over 200 employees and a community that allows us the privilege to serve. Our clinical research allows us to continually remain on the cutting edge of therapies. This practice maintains a wonderful spirit and commitment to service excellence that continues to exceed the expectations the four of us had over 35 years ago.

To recharge my batteries, I am a popular culture junkie and Syracuse and Fordham University sports enthusiast. I love movies and enjoy TV time. My wife tells me that I am living in the past because my musical tastes are stuck in the 1960s and 70s. We have five children and a growing number of grandchildren. My family means the world to me and understands the sacrifices of time and togetherness we have made and continue to make because of the vocation I have chosen. My work as an Oncologist at HOA has changed my perspective on life. We are all here for each other living life in the present. Live and love for today!
