Nutrition Counseling

In October 2000, Hematology-Oncology Associates announced the addition of a Registered Dietitian (RD) to its health care team. This introduction of nutrition counseling adds another dimension to the comprehensive array of treatment and support services we currently provide. It is consistent with our goal of providing holistic care for our patients, as we recognize that nutrition plays a critical role in prevention and treatment of chronic illness and disease.

The dietitian will work in conjunction with other members of your health care team to help improve your health. The dietitian will review your chart to do an initial nutrition assessment. Based on that information, the dietitian will provide dietary information and recommendations that will address your unique health concerns.

Other services provided by the dietitian include education and counseling about healthy eating, preventive nutrition and medical nutrition therapy (i.e., dietary intervention for heart disease, elevated lipids, diabetes, and weight management). A follow-up session with the dietitian is often helpful to reinforce suggestions for changes and to receive your feedback.
